Demographica Research Offerings

Understanding people in the real world

At Demographica, we help organisations make better decisions by understanding the people behind them.

Our work sits at the intersection of anthropology, behavioural science, customer insight, and business strategy. We spend time understanding how people think, feel, decide, work, buy, and navigate the realities of everyday life—because that’s where the most valuable insights are found.

Sometimes that means spending a day on a factory floor. Sometimes it means speaking to hundreds of customers on WhatsApp. More often, it’s a combination of methods designed around the question at hand.

What matters to us is not simply collecting data, but uncovering the human truths that sit beneath it.

What makes our approach different?

Every tool we use is designed through a human-centred lens.

Our research is led by anthropologists, social scientists, and experienced insight practitioners who understand that behaviour doesn’t happen in isolation. People’s decisions are shaped by culture, context, relationships, habits, pressures, and aspirations.

Rather than treating customers as data points, we seek to understand them as people.

This allows us to uncover not only what is happening, but why it is happening—and what organisations can do about it.

Our Research Toolkit

Business Anthropology & Ethnography

When we want to understand life as it is actually lived, we go to where people are.

Through observation, immersion, and in-depth conversations, we spend time in the environments where decisions happen—whether that’s a workplace, a home, a vehicle, a retail store, or a boardroom.

This type of research helps us uncover the things people often struggle to articulate themselves: routines, workarounds, tensions, rituals, and unspoken needs.

It’s particularly valuable when exploring customer experience, employee experience, innovation, product development, or complex decision-making environments.

What it gives us: A rich understanding of people’s realities, not just their opinions.

WhatsApp Surveys

Sometimes the goal is to hear from hundreds or even thousands of people quickly and efficiently.

Our WhatsApp surveys make this possible through a channel people already know and use every day.

Because the experience feels familiar and accessible, response rates are often significantly higher than traditional online surveys. It also allows us to reach audiences who may be less likely to engage through email or web-based platforms.

These studies are ideal for measuring sentiment, tracking change over time, testing ideas, understanding customer needs, or validating patterns we’ve uncovered through qualitative work.

What it gives us: Scale, speed, and confidence in the patterns we’re seeing.

AI-Assisted Conversational Research

Traditional surveys are good at collecting answers. Conversations are better at uncovering stories.

Our AI-assisted interviews sit somewhere in between.

Participants engage in a natural conversation via WhatsApp, where the technology can probe, clarify, and explore responses in greater depth than a standard survey ever could.

The result is research that feels more human for participants while allowing us to engage with far larger groups than would be possible through traditional interviewing alone.

Importantly, the technology never replaces the researcher. Our anthropologists still design the conversations, interpret the findings, and uncover the meaning behind the responses.

What it gives us: The depth of qualitative research combined with the reach of quantitative research.

Digital Diary Studies

Many experiences unfold over days, weeks, or even months.

Diary studies allow us to follow people through those journeys as they happen.

Participants share reflections, photos, videos, decisions, frustrations, and moments of success in real time, giving us a far more accurate picture than retrospective interviews alone.

This approach is particularly useful when exploring customer journeys, onboarding experiences, product usage, employee experiences, or major life and business decisions.

What it gives us: An understanding of how experiences evolve over time, not just how they are remembered afterwards.

Bringing Methods Together

While each methodology is powerful on its own, the most interesting work often happens when we combine them.

We might begin with ethnography to uncover hidden tensions and opportunities, then use a WhatsApp survey to understand how widespread those patterns are.

Or we might use conversational research to explore a topic in depth before following up with diary studies to understand how it plays out in everyday life.

By blending depth and scale, we can build a more complete picture of the people we serve.

Where We Typically Work

  • Employee Experience (EX)
  • Brand and Communication Strategy
  • Product and Service Innovation
  • Sales Enablement
  • Customer and Market Understanding

Why Clients Work With Us

Our clients come to us when they need more than a survey and more than a set of statistics.

They come to us when they need to understand the people behind the numbers.

Because when you understand how people make sense of their world, you make better decisions about products, services, communication, experiences, and strategy.

That’s the work we do.

Human-centred. Commercially relevant. Grounded in the realities of everyday life.
